Day 27-28

Mauritius to Reunion

semi-overcast 27 °C

Yesterday we left our hotel after breakfast to go back to the airport for the short flight to the Island of Reunion.

I forgot to check the flight the day before and was a bit shocked to find the flight was 45 minutes earlier than originally scheduled.... Luckily we were still in time to check in.

Reunion is 63k by 45k, it is quite mountainous and volcanic in origin. The Piton de la Fournaise is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The island is an overseas department of France, so it is part of the Eurozone.

We drove from the airport along the coast road to L'Ermitage on the west of the island to the Lux hotel. Our room is top right in this block of 6 rooms. The hotel left us some goodies, including a T-shirt and a wrap as an anniversary present - along with a heart-shaped pattern in flowers on the bed.

Today we explored the area close to the hotel and relaxed on the beach. We have an early start tomorrow for our helicopter trip over the island.
